SELECTION - Criteria for admission

Selection Criteria

The following selection criteria is applied to applicants who have met the minimum standards listed under prerequisites and corequisites sections. There is a cumulative total of 250 points possible that applicants may earn in nine categories. All points will be determined by a consensus of the Selection Committee and students will be ranked accordingly. Categories are as follows:

  • GPA in prerequisite coursework
  • Cumulative GPA in all college coursework
  • Number of units completed at Taft College
  • Progress toward the completion of the general education requirements for an Associate Degree
  • Attainment of a college degree
  • Related work experience
  • Quality of the applicant’s personal statement
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Community service

Program requirements and selection criteria are subject to change. Students applying to the Dental Hygiene Program must meet the catalog and program requirements in effect at the time of application to the program.
